GOALS

Our Goals are:

  • To provide a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration among UTA faculty from the colleges of science, engineering, and liberal arts as well as the university research institute (UTARI), augmenting the prospects of obtaining federal funds to address critical security issues through technological advances.
  • Assist local agencies in acquiring funding to strengthen security. This could include matters such as nuclear material control (one of the four regional offices of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is located in Arlington), transportation safety (DFW, our local airport, is the fourth busiest airport in the U.S.), stadium safety (the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers are based in Arlington), and border security.
  • Facilitate the education and training of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students in research areas relevant to homeland security, thus providing a new work force that would be well-positioned to fill the critical shortage of trained professionals in this vital area.
